BOOKS BY DR. WARING

Dr. Waring began building musical instruments in the mid-1970's in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. As a member of a woodworking cooperative, he specialized in string folk instruments, especially the Appalachian dulcimer. From there he built hammered dulcimers, Irish harps and drums, banjos, psalteries and such. With a music education background, he then began to offer instrument making workshops in schools.  With this success, he then wrote his first book, Making Folk Instruments In Wood. After returning to the United States and earning a doctorate degree in Ethnomusicology, the books that followed were to fill a much needed niche within the fields of music, art and culture.

Sirius Coyote's Recordings

Dr. Waring is a member of the musical group Sirius Coyote, playing flute, clarinet, sax and many other instruments.  Sirius Coyote is a multi-talented group of musicians, storytellers and instrument makers. They perform on over 30 different ancient and modern instruments of the Americas,  hand crafted by the artists themselves. Their concerts and workshops have delighted audiences from New England to Mexico for over 15 years. Sirius Coyote's many Arts in Education programs cover all curriculum areas with a focus on the environment, cross-cultural understanding and creativity as a way of raising self esteem and communication with others. They have released six recordings on their own label including a recent CD entitled “In The Land Of The Nahuatl” and a children’s music cassette entitled “Canciones Para Niños." Sirius Coyote will take you on a musical journey to the realms of magical sounds of the Americas . . . from the oceans and tropical rainforests to the deserts and villages of the high Sierras.

TODO LO BUENO: (CD)

Todo Lo Bueno is Sirius Coyote's most recent recording effort.  Recording in Dennis' home studio gave time to relax and have fun which is reflected in the choice of music. A wide variety of Latin dance music is represented here, some of it original music composed by Dennis and Giovanni based on Latin and World styles. A great production!

IN THE LAND OF THE NAHUATL: (Cassette and CD)

Sirius Coyote's first CD release. A compilation of re-recorded material from their previous cassette releases plus new compositions from their performing repertoire. Combination of tradirional styles and tunes based on the sounds of ancient American instruments. This record is a manifestation of the fusion of sounds from different cultures of the Americas resulting in an exciting and unique musical form. A musical journey through original, ceremonial, popular dance tunes and revolutionary songs of Latin America.

CANCIONES PARA NIÑOS: (Cassette only)

Children tunes from Latin American. First production to come out of Dennis' new 16 track in-house recording studio. Mostly songs and game-songs that Giovanni grew up with in Venezuela. All of them previously unreleased by the coyotes. It is illustrated with children’s art-work cut and pasted from the many letters receive from their school programs. Liner notes include all lyrics in Spanish with English translations.
